[Every year in July, the inhabitants of the island of Tanegashima, in the sound of japan, commemorate the arrival of the Portuguese in 1543 and the introduction of the first fire weapons which would deeply change the military strategy of that time, making way for the new ideas and cultures from Europe and preparing the country for its technological development 400 years later. TDM - Teledifusão de Macau with the collaboration of RTP - RadioTelevisão Portuguesa went to Tanegashima to make this Special on the Gun Festival.
Following "TANEGASHIMA - The Island of the Gun", the following four programmes - coproduction RTP/TDM (Macao) - on the Portuguese presence in Asia since the 16th century show that faith, trade and military interests were bound together in the adventure that took the Portuguese all over the world, and that many historical sites in Siam, China, japan and Macao still bear witness to their cultural influence.
