Bobô é um filme cuja narrativa parte do encontro de duas mulheres, Sofia e Mariama. O motor do filme é a sinergia criada entre ambas na defesa de uma criança. Sofia, a protagonista do filme, é uma personagem que vive presa nas sombras da sua infância, no peso da sua “herança", das quais é urgente libertar-se. Mariama aparece como um alguém ligado também à sua "herança". Ela segue as regras que a sua pertença exige, mas num determinado momento vê-se obrigada a desobedecer para mudar o destino da pequena Bobô e evitar que esta seja submetida à mutilação genital feminina (MGF). As personagens Sofia e Mariama foram redesenhadas com as atrizes Paula Garcia e Aissatu Indjai (estreante neste filme), que muito puseram das suas vivências, personalidade e convicções. Fizemos um trabalho de investigação, de leituras, trabalho no terreno junto da comunidade emigrante guineense, de ensaios. Esta preparação permitiu-nos uma rodagem segura e por isso com espaço para o improviso. Penso que Bobô é um filme com uma óptica e lógica interna sem dúvida feminina, mas aqui o feminino não está, como tantas vezes é retratado, no campo do que é terreno e tangível. Está sim perante as questões que nos transcendem: a relação com a morte, com as regras do Mundo, com o que não conseguimos denominar.

[Bobô is a film whose narrative comes from the meeting of two women, Sofia and Mariama. The engine of the film is the synergy created between them in the defense of a child. Sofia, the protagonist of the film, is a character who lives trapped in the shadows of her childhood, the weight of their "heritage", from which it is urgent to break free. Mariama appears as someone also linked to this "inheritance." She follows the rules demanded by her belonging, but at a certain moment she is forced to disobey to change the fate of little Bobô and prevent her from being subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM). Characters Sofia and Mariama were redesigned with actresses Paula Garcia and Aissatu Indjai (debuting in this film), who put a lot of their experiences, personality and beliefs in them. We did a lot of research and reading, field work with the immigrant Guinean community, did some testing. This preparation allowed us a safe shooting, with space for improvisation. I think Bobô is a film with an undoubtedly feminine internal optic and logic, but the feminine here is not, as is so often portrayed, in the field of what is earthy and tangible.
